Secondary School

Welcome, students!

As you make your journey through high school, you will encounter in more and more detail the important events taking place in the history of the Caribbean. All of these significant happenings – Transatlantic Slave Trade, plantation history, indigenous people and culture, African traditions, colonialism, relationships with countries near and far – connect Dominica to the wider Caribbean.

Tradibelle Cultural GroupOn this site, The Road to Independence, we will explore one important segment of this critical Caribbean history in order to show how important Dominica and its Independence story is to Caribbean history and culture. From Dominica’s primary role in the attempt at West Indies Federation to its grassroots labour and political movements that catalysed political Independence, Dominica’s history is significant to your academic preparation and to your imaginative exploration.

Come, take this journey with us down the road to Independence.
